Mission and Goals Statement

....More from Governor Sandi

Good Afternoon Everyone...

Just a few reminders as we prepare for Convention at the end of July:

    1. The Registration Form is now on the Website under the "News" tab. Please encourage attendance!
	It promises to be a fun time for all, and the training for the incoming Lt. Governors,
	District Team and Club Officers is invaluable to insuring the success of Indiana South.
	Also, the $10.00 Registration Fee is per family as it has always been in the past.

    2. As we go into the 4th Quarter of the "Promise Yourself...for the Kids" year, we do still
	    have some work to be done. We have made big inroads in working toward a distinguished
	    district with the building of THREE new clubs. Unfortunately, we are still considerably
	    down in membership. I would ask your help in encouraging your clubs and zones to help
	    in the following ways:

        a. "Recruit 4 Members and You're Free." Many districts are having tremendous success with this
             promotion which offers FREE membership for 1 year. And remember the District voted to include
             the District dues in this promotion

        b. A lot of clubs are holding NOW meetings...and it's working for them. Clubs not participating in NOW
            meetings are really missing out on prospective new members.

        c. Another requirement for Distinguished District Recognition is the addition of 10 new Friends of Optimists.
            And...every new FOO counts as one of your 4 members recruited. To date, the District has 3 new FOO's.

        You have all worked hard this year for Indiana South and whether or not our District is Distinguished will not
        take any of that away. What is will do for the District is this: it will enable us to HELP MORE KIDS!!!

    3. Don't forget the OI Auction this year. District Foundation Rep Brad Bradshaw is counting on you to help make
	    this Auction a success. Remember, it's a live auction, so it should be lots of fun!! And speaking of Auctions,
	    don't forget to bring your Opti Bucks you received from Membership Chair Cheryl for another opportunity to bid
	    on really fantastic items.

    4. And, as a postscript, just a reminder of the New Fishers Club Charter Party on Sunday, July 25th, from 4-6 p.m.
	    Plan now to head north to welcome one of our new Optimist Clubs this year and enjoy a sit-down dinner for only $10.00.
	    Also, we'll forward charter party info on Plainfield's new club, the Miracle Movers, soon.

Thanks again for all of your help this year...let's finish really strong as each of you continues to "Give of Yourself...for the Kids."

The OPTIMIST difference... it's all in our name!

What differentiates Optimist Clubs from any other volunteer opportunity is simple -- OPTIMISM. And Optimists take their upbeat approach and work every day to make a difference for themselves and for the people around them. Optimists are people who believe that through positive action in their communities they can create a better tomorrow.

Our Mission

Optimist International's mission is to foster an optimistic way of life, through a network of Optimists, dedicated to the full development of their potential in order to provide ever-expanding service to youth, the community and the world.

Purposes of Optimist

To develop optimism as a philosophy of life;

To promote an active interest in good government and civic affairs;

To inspire respect for law;

To promote patriotism and work for international accord and friendship among all people;

To aid and encourage the development of youth;

In the belief that the giving of one's self in service to others will advance the well-being of man, his community, and the world.

The OPTIMIST CREED

Promise Yourself

To be so strong that nothing can disturb your peace of mind.

To talk health, happiness and prosperity to every person you meet.

To make all your friends feel that there is something in them.

To look at the sunny side of everything and make your optimism come true.

To think only of the best, to work only for the best and to expect only the best.

To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others as you are about your own.

To forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future.

To wear a cheerful countenance at all times and give every living creature you meet a smile.

To give so much time to the improvement of yourself that you have no time to criticize others.

To be too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for fear, and too happy to permit the presence of trouble.
